In a telephone message sent to Church of God of Prophecy pastors of North America on Monday, North America General Presbyter Tim Coalter has called on pastors and local church congregations to pray for the upcoming Supreme Court hearing on same-sex marriage.

In the message, Coalter shared, “Marriage is on trial in America. I’m sure you are aware that tomorrow, April 28, our nine U.S. Supreme Court Justices will hear two-and-a-half hours of oral arguments for and against “same sex marriage.”  These arguments are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. eastern time.

The Church of God of Prophecy firmly believes that marriage is a lifelong institution, established by God between a man and woman joined as husband and wife, and we believe it is one that must be preserved, protected, and promoted.

Therefore, I am calling to ask our 1800 pastors and local church congregations across North America to join me in prayer as we stand in the gap for our nation at this critical time. It was Solomon who said, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).

As we unite together concerning this important issue, it is my prayer that God will hear us from heaven, that he will forgive our sin, and heal our land. May God bless you.”
