DOWNSVIEW CHURCH OF GOD OF PROPHECY
2424 Finch Avenue West, Unit 8
Toronto, Ontario

Pastoral Installation Ceremony for
Pastor Anthony & Yoland Delaunay

It was a remarkable and memorable day for the Downsview Church of God of Prophecy located at 2424 Finch Avenue West, Unit 8, in the lighted city of Toronto.  Not only was the church packed to capacity with members of this local church, but there were friends who had not graced our doors in a long time; visitors and friends of the new pastoral candidates and friends who have always supported this ministry.  We had all gathered to celebrate the installation of Pastor Anthony Delaunay.

We were also blessed to have several ministers who had come to either witness this grand event or to assist in officiating:  Bishop Woodroe Thompson, Administrative Bishop of the Churches of God of Prophecy, Eastern Canada; Bishop H.L. Martin, Co-Pastor for the New Hope Tabernacle; Pastor Peter Manning, newly appointed District #2 Overseer and Pastor for Hope Community Centre/Mississauga; Bishop Alvin Campbell, retired and former Pastor of this local church, Evangelist William Paul, personal friend of the Delaunays, Pastor Flood, Evangelist Fitz Aransevia and Evangelist T.T. Turner.

Following the processional, Minister Steve Clarke proceeded with the call to worship.  We then joined Sis Valda McDonald and the inspirational worship team by lifting our voices in singing, worshipping and giving thanks to the King of all Kings and the Lord of all Lords.  Prayer was followed by the acknowledging of our guests, friends and members. Announcements and the receiving of the tithe and offering also followed.  We were blessed by special presentation from Evangelist Fitz Aransevia, Evangelist T.T. Turner, our children’s ministry and the church choir.

It was time to worship in the word.  Bishop Woodroe Thompson, in his charge to New Testament Leaders, spoke eloquently from Acts 20: 17 – 38.

He spoke on how crucial leadership is to an organization and how the bible calls for good leadership in the church.  He further stated that leadership in the church is different from leadership in the world.  He made reference to Jesus saying model leadership was to serve others.  The Apostle Paul was used as a great example of a model leader:

  • Paul served with humility.  We were reminded that no matter what we achieve in this world, it all comes from God.  Please God, not man and remain focused on Him.  We won’t be able to please everyone, but aim to please God.  We are called to serve God.  We are sinners saved by grace.  Serve with humility.
  • Paul served with tears.  We were reminded that serving God means we have to prepare to suffer.
  • Paul served with diligence.

 The Act of Installation

The Act of Installation was performed by Bishop Woodroe Thompson and Bishop H.L. Martin.

With much joy and jubilation, the ministers, members, friends and visitors cheered as the new pastoral candidates were presented to the Church.  Pastor Delaunay stood tall and proud and beside him his lovely and supportive wife, Yoland.

Their admirable biography was done by Sisters Minnis and Benjamin.  Both candidates are descendants of the beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia.  They were married in 1979, and migrated to Montreal, Canada in 1981 where they started their family.  They are proud parents of daughters Deborah and Alyssa, and the newest addition, son-in-law Brandon and his daughter Aneshia.   He accepted the call to be a Pastor in the year 1984.  Pastor Delaunay is a dedicated minister who served in various ministerial capacities:  member of the Deeper Life Chorale, leader of an Evangelistic team which led him to preaching in St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, St. Marten, Jamaica and the Martinique.  He was also a board member and youth leader in the New Testament Church of God.  Most recently, he served as the assistant pastor of the Downsview Church of God of Prophecy for approximately 3 years.

Bishop Thompson and Bishop Martin took turn in administering the Charge to Pastor Delaunay, the Invitation and Covenant for the church to new pastor, and the Covenant Litany to the church.

In his charge to Pastor Delaunay, Bishop H. L. Martin encouraged:

“Feed the flock of God, don’t feed on them.  Feed them with the unadulterated word of God on a Sunday morning.  We are God’s creation and God called you to feed the people.  Do it willingly.  God will give you inspiration which comes only from him.  Take the message on your knees, not from the computer or the radio.”

An expression of appreciation was extended to our outgoing pastor, Pastor Floreth Clark by Pastor Peter Manning.  Pastor Flo (as she is affectionately called) was unable to attend, but we all agreed with the description of her work – for approximately 3 years she toiled and labored with this local church.  She accomplished a lot during her tenure.  She was faithful, committed and touched many lives.  We will never be able to repay her for a job well done.

Several symbolic items were presented to Pastor Delaunay and with these items he made a Covenant to the church.

I promise to:
Bible:  Remain a man of the book
Vessel of Water:  Be an Evangelist who affirms faith by water baptism
Hymnal:  Be a true worshipper
Church Directory of members:  Continue to pray for the families of the church
Tithes Envelopes:  Be a faithful steward
Church of God of Prophecy Manual:  Be a Disciple to God’s people
Bread and Cup:  Always serve the communion
Lit Candle:  Be a representation of the presence of God

Nearing the end of this historic event but before the conclusion of the service, a charge was made to the Pastor’s wife, his children, to the ministers, to the committees and finally to the congregation.  In his final statement of installation, our Administrative Bishop charged our pastoral candidates to bring forth much fruit and that their fruit should remain.

With sincerity of heart and with everyone agreeing, Bishop Martin prayed the dedicatory prayer.  This was followed by the presentation of the pastoral team.

Finally, it was time to hear from the new pastor, Pastor Anthony Delaunay.  With a happy smile on his face and standing proud behind the podium, we listened attentively as he addressed his eager audience. He committed to leading the Downsview church closer to God.  He promised that the Downsview church will prevail and succeed with the help of God.  He said God has supernatural abilities and that He is able to do all things and finally, he is looking forward to working with the church.

Indeed it was an exuberant occasion.  Everyone joined in line and waited patiently to greet the new pastoral candidates.  All around there was the buzz of people conversing of how well the service was administered and how happy they were for the Delaunays.  And now we move forward, and will succeed with God’s divine intervention in this ministry.
